Didn’t Make the List
This book was not added to The Good and the Beautiful Booklist due to the following reasons, which parents may want to consider:
  • It contains crude language or jokes
  • Lying, stealing, or other dishonest behaviors are made to seem normal and acceptable
  • Insulting others, name calling, frequent use of unkind language, and/or frequent arguing are made to seem normal and acceptable
  • Unhealthy family relationships or negative attitudes toward family are made to seem normal, acceptable, and/or humorous
  • Teenagers being obsessed with crushes and/or having serious romantic relationships is a focus of the book
  • An unhealthy, shallow view of romance is portrayed as normal and acceptable, such as kissing without any commitment, romance based on physical attraction alone, or promoting the idea that romantic emotions can be so strong you are “unable” to make good decisions
  • It contains mild sexual content that some readers may not find appropriate
  • Teenagers drinking alcohol is made to seem normal or like it isn’t a big deal
