Johnny Hong of Chinatown

By Clyde Robert Bulla
Level 3
Review:

This 69-page book with large print and nice black-and-white illustrations on every two pages or so, is a gentle story that takes place in Chinatown. Johnny had never seen much of the city and did not have friends. When he was 6 years old, he had been very ill of a fever, and had been house ridden for a long time. When he is finally able to venture out, we follow some of his adventures in the city and see him make friends. This is a cute story, but it is slow moving and probably not for reluctant readers.
