Review:

Lines of Courage by Jennifer Nielsen is a very engaging look at the entirety of WWI from the viewpoint of five teenagers. Reading their individual perspectives representing Austria-Hungary, Britain, France, Russia, and Germany, you learn about the timing of the war, the catalyst for it, the many sides involved, the complicated reasoning for each country’s involvement, and so much more. It also shows how WWI laid the groundwork for WWII. I learned so much in a way that was engaging and memorable. I loved how the five different storylines intertwine and progress through the long war. I also liked the theme of doing what is right, even if it isn’t what you are ordered to do.
