After her father comes home from WWII broken in spirit, 10-year-old Marley and her family spend a summer at Maple Hill Farm, where Marley’s great-grandmother had lived. This clean, well-written book is a heartwarming story of healing, hope, friendship, and the importance of family. This is not a fast-paced book, but it is engaging and worthy of its Newbery Award in 1957.
