In Saving the Baghdad Zoo by Kelley Milner Halls and Major William Sumner, we learn about a once-thriving zoo that had housed more than 600 animals prior to its destruction during the Iraq War. When a US Army captain was asked to check on the zoo, he was shocked by what he found. He shares the stories of the animals found remaining in the zoo as well as his mission to help save them and bring the zoo back to its original purpose of sharing the beauty of the animals.
