Talented author Eric Sloane explores the history and spirit of early American schools in this short but delightful book. A rich, elevated vocabulary makes this book more difficult but also more rewarding. This book is packed not only with educational value but with moral value as well. It explains how faith and the Bible played a major role in early American education. Scattered throughout the book are great insights into moral character. I think all children and adults should take the time to read this book. Like the author says: “The one-room schoolhouse is too much a part of America to be forgotten.”
