The Wind in the Willows
I am not a fan of abridged classics for adults, but I highly recommend many of the Classic Starts series for younger readers. My children have loved reading them, and they are wholesome, classic stories that will prepare and excite readers for reading the full versions one day. Reviewer Wayne S. Walker wrote, “The relationship of Rat, Mole, and Badger illustrates good friendships, and in the end Mr. Toad learns an important lesson about being humble and modest. It is one of the loveliest stories that I remember ever having read.” Parents and readers should be aware that the original The Wind in the Willows takes the Lord’s name in vain one time.
