This is an old-fashioned classic that Louisa May Alcott fans will enjoy. The story gives a window into the 19th century, and like all of Alcott’s books, supports good values and emphasizes redemption and kindness. The story is a little different than Alcott’s other books and contains a little less serious of a tone. The story starts when two sisters, while having a tea party outside, discover a circus runaway, Ben, and his dog. I love how the book includes positive adults as main characters in the book. This is “feel good” literature at its best!
