I recommend several books by British author Ursula Moray Williams; this is one of them. John-Peter,
who lives in London, is surprised when his godfather dies and leaves him his large house in the country.
When he and his family go to visit, they fall in love with the house and its grounds. But one door in the
house is different, and it says “the pirates’ lair, go away.” There is definitely a mystery to be solved.
This gentle, well-written story is charming.
