Arne of Norway

Review:

Growing up in Nordheim on the banks of the fjord, Arne has always wanted to be like Gustav, his smart, courageous older brother. When Gustav leaves home on a months-long shipping trip to South America, Arne dreams of going along. Instead, he’s stuck at home, attending school with his cousin Bergel under the eye of the stern, strict Herr Professor Engstrand. Then there’s a storm at sea. As Arne’s entire family struggles to keep up their hopes, Arne finds it harder and harder to focus on school, but if he tries his best, he—and Gustav—might get help from a surprising source, and Arne might find some courage of his own.

Arne of Norway is a wonderful book to add to a Christmas list of books to read.
