Review:

Carved in Ebony (Young Reader’s Edition) by Jasmine L. Holmes is a set of inspiring stories of ten black women who shaped history, even through difficult circumstances, all to the glory of God. Some of them lived in the North, some lived in the South. Some were influential speakers and left the legacy of a school behind them while others lived in obscurity but gave up everything to help others. I enjoyed this well-written book and especially felt inspired by the focus on perseverance and reliance on God, along with boldness for what you believe is right. Some of the issues described might be difficult for sensitive children, but for such an ugly time in American history, I felt the author did a good job of presenting the material in a gentle way for younger children.
