Clara’s War

By Kathy Kacer
Level 7
Review:

For Clara, her family, and all of her Jewish friends, life is changing rapidly with each new set of laws. No school, no arts, food vouchers instead of regular grocery shopping–and now–deportations. Kathy Kacer expertly tells us the story of Clara’s War – based on the diaries of a girl living in Nazi occupied Poland. When Clara’s family is deported to the ghetto and separated they must each learn how to survive. Clara eventually finds faith, peace, and even hope through a musical theatre production right there in the ghetto. Please note that this book would not be well suited for sensitive readers. Heavy topics include: genocide, death of a family member, war, and starvation.
