Hunger Winter

By Rob Currie

Review:

I have read a lot of historical fiction books about WWII, but Hunger Winter tells a unique story of the Dutch Resistance that is unlike any other I have read and is well worth the read. When thirteen-year-old Dirk’s father and older sister are captured by the Gestapo, he is left in charge of his little sister Anna. Dirk and Anna travel across the war-torn Netherlands seeking to reunite their family. Rob Currie’s writing is fast-paced, inspiring, and full of insight into how the war affected the people of the Netherlands. This is a story about hope, faith in God, love of family, and persistence, and it is definitely one that will keep even reluctant readers engaged.
