Lost in the Barrens

By Farley Mowat
Level 10
Review:

Do you want to explore the Arctic and learn what it takes to survive in the freezing cold? Lost In the Barrens by Farley Mowat is an excellent survival story featuring Awasin and Jamie, young teenage boys, who are seperated from their tribe and must learn how to outlast the winter on their own. They showcase many strong charactertics such as creative thinking, faith, friendship, loyalty and honoring nature. This novel is engaging and realistically details many skills needed to survive in the wild. It’s really well written with many beautifully descriptive scenes. There’s quite a bit of hunting and their pet dawn is killed by wolves, but is very accurate to what they were going through. This book was originally titled Two Against the North.
