Masters of Silence
This unique, beautifully told WWII story was one I couldn’t put down. It is based on the little-known true story of Marcel Marceau, a mime who helped save hundreds of Jewish children in France. The story follows fictional siblings Helen and Henry as they are sent to live in a Catholic convent to hide from the Nazis. The emotional trauma of leaving their home and family leaves Henry a selective mute, but when Marcel the mime starts visiting the convent, Henry is able to learn new skills and find the courage he will need to save himself and his sister. Kathy Kacer’s writing is engaging, the characters are deep, and this story will leave you feeling inspired.
