The official description for this book reads: “Against his will, a young boy is separated from his sister and sold as a bonded servant, but the good-hearted pirate captain who rescues him makes possible a happier future.” This short chapter book contains adventure while still displaying strong loyalty to family, integrity, and courage. The good-hearted pirate helps the boy, but you also see the consequences the pirate pays for his lifestyle. This is a great book that also helps readers gain knowledge of the historical time period. I suggest children be at least eight before reading this book because the topics of death and a cruel relative will be easier to understand at an older age.
