The Boy Who Dared

By Susan Campbell Bartoletti
Level 7
Review:

Author Susan Bartoletti took one episode from her Newbery Honor Book, Hitler Youth, and turned it into a powerful novel: The Boy Who Dared. This book tells the true story of 16-year-old Helmut Hubner. When he tries to expose the lies being spread by Germany in WWII, he is tried for treason. As Helmut goes through this experience, we see his commitment to faith and truth. The deep subject matter is treated appropriately, in a way that makes the story both thought-provoking and eye-opening while also being inspiring.
