This is one of my favorite Level 3 books. The book, which first appeared in 1928, is 224 pages long with medium-sized print and adorable black-and-white illustrations every 2–3 pages. The book is beautifully written and includes a great vocabulary, but can still be read by Level 3 readers. Milly-Molly-Mandy is a polite, sweet little girl who lives with her family in a “nice white cottage with a thatched roof.” The 21 stories included in this book are interesting, wholesome, and even funny at times. This delightful book gives us a peek into the past and into the innocence and joy of childhood. The book supports strong families, cheerfulness, optimism, obedience, kindness, love of nature, imagination and creativity, and industry. This book would be a great read-aloud for 4-8 year olds, or a read-alone for Level 3-5 readers
We also recommend The Big Milly-Molly-Mandy Storybook, that includes 9 of the original 21 stories and has colored illustrations, and More Milly-Molly-Mandy.
