The Night Crossing
This 56-page book has large print and black-and-white illustrations every few pages. It is 1938 during the Holocaust, and Jewish families are no longer safe in Austria, where young Clara lives. When Clara and her family leave, she picks two of her favorite dolls to bring with her—dolls her grandmother had carried with her when she left Russia many years ago. Little does Clara know that the dolls will play an important role in her family’s escape.
