Review:

My son and I really enjoyed this book, which tells the fictional story of a 12-year-old boy, Matt, who is left alone to guard the new home that he and his father built, while his father goes to get the rest of the family. Set in the wilderness of Maine in the late 1700s, a series of events leaves Matt injured and without food while his family is delayed all winter, but local Indians teach him their skills so he can survive. This historical fiction book is an easy and interesting read, an engaging way to learn more about Colonial America, and it supports good values. Please be aware of one veiled curse word, “demmed.”
