This historical fiction book takes place during WWII in Italy. It is definitely a worthwhile read but is not quite as engaging or moving as other books on the topic. The main character, an Italian boy named Chico, becomes friends with an American soldier and his donkey. Chico shows great bravery during the book after his American friend is hurt and trapped.
