The Whipping Boy, Sid Fleischman

Review:

Orphan boy Jemmy is taken from the streets to the palace and is made the whipping boy, where he is punished every time the spiteful, spoiled Prince Brat does something wrong, which is often. One day the prince announces that he is running away and orders Jemmy to come with him. This fun, Newbery Medal book is well written and entertaining while teaching lessons about character such as humility, trust, and kindness. I do not recommend reading this book to kids under age eight due to some harsh treatment portrayed in the book.
