Review:

In print since the 1950s, this story follows two friends as they travel to an alien planet in their homemade spaceship. Although I am not a big fan of science fiction, I did like this story. If your child likes science fiction, or if you want to expose your child to all different kinds of genres, this is a fantastic book for these reasons: 1) The story is fun and imaginative. 2) Readers actually learn some things about space and science. 3) The writing features a wonderful vocabulary. 4) Unlike so many modern books for youth, this book portrays parents as helpful, caring, and involved, and the children treat their parents with respect. Also unlike many books today, the children do not go have secret adventures without telling their parents. I have not read the sequel, Stowaway to the Mushroom Planet, but reviews appear positive, so it is a part of this book list.
